It was autumn, still warm, and the leaves had just started falling in force. Taking advantage of the season's deciduous bounty, a playful little Eevee nudged the leaves busily into a pile. When the leaf pile was suitably large enough, he stepped back, crouched, wiggled his rump, and took a charging leap into it, oak and maple and beech and gingko exploding everywhere.
Eevee popped his head out and blew a leaf off his nose. He jumped out, shook clinging leaves out of his fur coat, and started kicking them back into the pile for another go, when he noticed something. Just ahead of him were some wild lilac bushes, and in the small space where two of them were starting to tangle together, he saw a pond.
Or rather, he saw who was at the pond, and went down on his belly, crawling in the little space under the two bushes.
In the grass near the water's edge was a Skitty, tail lying limply on the ground. Her face was downcast as she stared into the subtly rippling reflection on the pond's surface. She tilted her head slightly, as if regarding herself from a different perspective, and sighed.
Eevee watched with his head and long ears sticking out the pond side of the bushes. Being a rambler, constantly going from place to place, he didn't know anyone in this forest, let alone the Skitty. He could tell she was feeling lonely however. A sudden idea struck him, and he smiled, backing quickly out of the bush.
Startled, Skitty quickly turned to glance at the bushes that had just rustled behind her, but nothing was there. Confused, she got up to leave, though she wasn't sure where to go, but before she could, the bushes rustled again as Eevee ducked through the little crawl space between them.
Eevee approached Skitty, a single white daisy hanging from his mouth. The kitten Pokemon stood very still, watching Eevee carefully, as he set the flower on the ground at her feet.
He looked at her and smiled. Skitty stared at the daisy, its bloom ruffling softly in the breeze. It made her think of the sun, the way the white petals radiated brightly from a golden yellow center, and she smiled too.
Happy that his kind gesture had worked, the Eevee wagged his bushy tail and bounded off to continue his journey. Skitty looked up quickly from her flower, wondering why her new friend had left so suddenly. He had cheered her up, but now she was alone again.
Gently picking up the daisy by its stem, she followed after him.
